Modeling Acceleration and Deceleration Rates for Two-Lane Rural Highways Using Global Positioning System Data

چکیده

Several past studies developed acceleration/deceleration rate models as a function of single explanatory variable. Most them were spot speed with speeds measured at specific locations on curves (usually midpoint the curve) and tangents to determine acceleration deceleration rates. Fewer adopted an estimated value 0.85 m/s2 for both rates while approaching departing curves, respectively. In this study, instrumented vehicles high-end GPS (global positioning system) device used collect continuous profile data two-lane rural highways. The profiles locate beginning end deceleration/acceleration successive road geometric elements calculate rate. influence different design variables was analysed develop regression models. This study also inspeced assumption constant operating horizontal curve. results indicated that mean point curvature (PC) or tangency (PT), curve (MC), in statistically different. Acceleration/deceleration improved accuracy evident from model validation comparison existing literature. highlight significance using considering calibrate

Alternative Design Consistency Rating Methods for Two-Lane Rural Highways

Design consistency refers to the conformance of a highway's geometry with driver expectancy. Drivers make fewer errors in the vicinity of geometric features that conform with their expectations. Techniques to evaluate the consistency of a design documented within this report include alignment indices, speed distribution measures, and driver workload. Alignment indices are quantitative measures ...

Two-Lane Highways: International Perspective

The results of an extensive literature review of the safety performances of lowand intermediate-traffic-volume, two-lane rural highways are presented. The effects on traffic safety, as measured by accident rates, of pavement width, radius of curve/degree of curve, gradient, sight distance, traffic volume, and design speed on curved sections of two-lane rural highways are covered. The following ...

Studying the Effect of Spiral Curves and Intersection Angle on the Accident Rates on Two-Lane Rural Highways in Iran

Safety on highways is one of the most important subjects in Transportation Engineering. The increasing rate of vehicles and the needs to design or geometrically modify the highways has been emphasized in the safe-design of roadways more than before. Between the constructive components of the highway, due to the increasing occurrences of accidents the horizontal curves are of great importance. T...

Modelling Free Flow Speed on Two-lane Rural Highways in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Free flow speed is used as a parameter in transportation planning and capacity analysis models, as well as speedflow diagrams. Many of these models suggest estimating free flow speed according to measurements from similar highways, which is not a practical method for use in B&H. This paper first discusses problems with using these methodologies in conditions prevailing in B&H and then presents ...
